[🦪 Mussels as sentinels of environmental quality?]
We are proud to announce our latest publication in “Environmental Pollution” in collaboration with Viscogliosi Eric team (CNRS-CIIL). In this study, we tracked Blastocystis sp. across cattle, river water and mussels in Northern France through a One Health approach.
🔬 Blastocystis was detected in 38.3% of cattle samples, 22.7% of mussels and 18.8% of river water samples. Interestingly, mussels showed considerable genetic diversity and seasonal variations in contamination.
The findings suggest that mussels could serve as valuable bioindicators of multisource fecal pollution, providing a useful tool for monitoring the interface between animal, environmental and human health.
